Kiefer Sutherland, Canadian actor and Emmy award winner for the hit Fox show 24, surrendered himself to the Glendale City Jail last night to serve his 48 day sentence on a DUI conviction. Originally it had been worked out that he would spend a 30 day then an 18 day stint so as not to break up production schedules on the show. Because you know, it would be TERRIBLE if anyone lost their JOB because they had to go to jail. One would expect the penal system to comply with production demands sheesh! But thankfully the penal system can thank a writer’s strike for the consecutive sentence which Kiefer will now serve. Kiefer’s sentence is going to be a little healthier than the blond bombshells we’ve seen convicted of similar offenses, but mostly because he was driving drunk while still on probation. On top of the sentence, he was given 5 yrs probation and a $510 fine, which yes, is a really odd number to me as well, but the whole situation is absurd. I am sure that very soon we’ll be hearing about his change of ways and how he found God or saw dead people whilst he was making countdown scratches on the wall.
