One would think that Jessica Simpson would have at least a little bit of on stage experience that would prevent her from getting the jitters, but I suppose when you trade in your Daisy Duke shorts for some banjo and old country twang, the nerves are going to peak a mite. Jessica held a listening party in Nashville on Thursday night for her new country album ‘Do You Know’ and it seems she was a bit freaked out. And this glamorously polished star opened her show by saying ‘If I throw up, I’m sorry’. Classy. Doing the standard Jessica move by brushing her goldy locks from her face, she thanked her listeners for coming and for giving her a chance. She discussed how the album is an ‘autobiography of sorts about the pain she’s been through and appreciates the sensitivities to her vulnerabilities. And if you thought the little soiree was a glammed up contemporary country event, you were wrong. Jessy girl was backed by a banjo, 3 acoustic guitars, and yes, even a barefoot fiddler ladies and gentmen. Again, I could not make this stuff up if I wanted to. Each song was intro’d with a heartbreaking story about how bad her life is. With ‘Remember That’ listeners were reminded about the abuse she doesn’t want to talk about. ‘Pray Out Loud’ was just what it sounds like, a song about faith and family she says, and how sweet is it that Jessica has gone all Christian too now, y’all? She then went into ‘Sippin on History’, a song about a relationship that was supposed to be a fairy tale, but wasn’t. Ok, so I guess she didn’t want to talk about THAT one either. But she got through it, and received her obligatory warm applause after each number, bully for her. She mentioned to her listeners that the album would be out on September 9, reminding them of how ‘lucky’ number 9 is folks. (huh, thought that was 7 actually) But oh, of course, guess who wears #9 on their jersey? You got it! And at the end of her set, the most notable moment of the night, she was ecstatic. Why? Because she didn’t throw up. Perhaps she should have taken a stomach poll ‘round the room, because that would be a bigger concern….
