When it comes to movie stars, we all like to see a little humility don’t we? It’s NICE when stars give modest smiles or casual shrugs when discussing their work or their A list status. In fact, when we know for certain that the latest celebrity dish has been served with a side of humble pie for dessert, it is comforting to us to know that these people don’t have big heads or don’t feel like they are ‘above’ anybody. Kate Winslet is trying to do this, but there is the other end of the spectrum. When the humble pie so aptly served for dessert came in a serving size a little too big. Yes, when stars appear TOO modest, it can get a little old as well, and when talking to In Style recently, she may have served it up a little too thick.

For example, when she was talking about her Golden Globe winning role in the hit ‘Revolutionary Road’ she didn’t want to congratulate herself or her talent, rather, she was thrilled by the ‘foreheads’ and how they were portrayed in the film. She’s referring to her non botoxed brow of course, as well as her co-star’s Leonardo Di Caprio amazing forehead that ‘is supposed to move’. Ok. See what I mean? A bit much.

She also is quite proud of the fact that she lives a normal life off screen. And maybe the term normal is relative, because how can a Golden Globe winner really live a normal life? But yes, of her life with hubby Sam Mendes and their five year old son, and Kate’s daughter Mia from a previous marriage, she says it’s all American apple pie. All normal. And you won’t get away with much if you try to call THIS stay at home mom a movie star as a shameless In Style interviewer dared to…

Please don’t call me that. I don’t feel like a movie star in my life at all, and I don’t particularly think I behave like one. I don’t have my own plane. I don’t have a chef or a trainer. To me, you’re a movie star only during the time when you’re at the Academy Awards or at an important glamorous event. It’s very much a hat that you wear, and as soon as the event’s over, the hat comes off. I’m back to being me and being Mummy, and that’s my priority.

Which is all well and good. I suppose. But I mean, who really buys into that? To us, the Oscars is the night where we get to see ALL of the movie stars at once. Not where they are born, or made….well okay, sometimes they are, but you get the drift. Kate Winslet is not a movie star one night of the year. Yes, the eye rolling alert is high with this one. Well yes, we have seen this one coming for quite some time now. Supermodel extraordinaire Gisele Bundchen has been *this tight* with football star Tom Brady for quite some time now, and as such the engagement rumors have been flying for a while. Most notably the question has been WHEN are they going to do it? Well, sorry for all of the male fan throngs, but it is official, Gisele Bundchen is off the market and will be tying the knot with Tom Brady very soon. She is spotted here strutting her stuff like a supermodel while she films scenes for a music video on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. The video was for The Black Cowboys and was directed by Entourage star Kevin Connolly, and it may have just well been her last strut as a single and unattached woman. There were some rumors that she and Tom had done the engaged diamond rock thing over the holidays, but they were quick to dispel those rumors. Let’s hope that didn’t ruin the surprise for Gisele, when Tom took the step and got down on one knee and proposed with a huge diamond ring in Los Angeles last Friday night. And you will not be disappointed to hear that there will be no quiet and intimate ceremony for this couple, as they are going to do it supermodel style when the time to tie the knot does come.

The couple are discussing a huge fashionista event in the spring or a more intimate and quicker ceremony in Costa Rica, where Gisele has a home.

And though their ‘people’ aren’t officially commenting, this has been a long time coming for these two, who have already braved some tough storms in their coupledom. Gisele and Tom got together many moons ago when Tom was still romantically involved with actress Bridget Moynahan. Bridget became pregnant with Tom’s son just before the couple broke up in December 2006 and this is approximately when the Tom and Gisele thing started happening. And though there was some ugliness when Tom and Brady’s son was born in August 2007, it sounds like the worst of that mess is over, and Tom and Gisele are ready to move on with their lives in the sweetest most happily ever after kind of way. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are seen here making nice for the cameras as they go out for ‘date night’ at the Luau in Beverly Hills for some quiet couple time. But from the sounds of it, these happy pasted smiles are just that, pasted and fake because all reports are that this marriage is on its deathbed. Though Jennifer and Marc have been spotted doing coupley things quite a bit, there are mixed camps on this. Most say that the starter marriages for these couple, or Jennifer’s second chance marriage with whats his name, weren’t enough to prepare either of them for the long haul with someone else. However, there are few that say well, maybe the third time is the charm and this one will stick with Jennifer. The marriage is, and has been, suffering some stress since their twins arrived, but that they are trying to work things out. Their friends are saying ‘I don’t *think* divorce is in the picture’. Isn’t that what you all say about those marriages that you know will last forever? Huh. This four and a half year marriage is experiencing some strain nonetheless, no matter what camp you are visiting. But they are working on it by spending the first week of ’09 vacationing together in Puerto Rico. They are also reportedly purchasing a place together at the Trump International Golf Club outside San Juan in Puerto Rico. Because you know…nothing says marital bliss and love like a separate living place a couple thousand miles from home…who knows with this one. And that’s pretty much where we have to leave it until these two tell us something differently. But my hunch is that time is the only thing we need to wait on for this one.

Ah yes, the couple that is John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston…a story that is getting a little long winded, no? But if they are still going strong, there must be something to it, because those on again off again things usually mean true love for the pair. Just ask Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson. (we’re still waiting for the update on their latest on again stint) And here is Player Mayer touching down at JFK in New York City from a whirlwind back and forth east/west coast holiday thing. John showed up in New York on New Year’s Even just for Jennifer Aniston, to keep her company while she premieres and promotes her new movie ‘Marley and Me’ in New York City. Ah, the things that couples do for each other. And now they are making cheese together. That’s right, cheese in the this is officially *too much* kind of way. Seems they are not quite ready to take the plunge of living together, having a baby or getting married, but they ARE committed enough to each other to make a song together. Ugh. Most of us know Jennifer Aniston as a talented comic actress and accomplished sun tanner. But it seems your favourite Friend has a hidden talent: poet! And what do you get when you put together a poet and a musician? Ah yes…you’re getting it. After she wrote a heartfelt love poem for boyfriend John Mayer, the Starbucks-friendly rocker set Jen’s words of goo to music. He performed it for her during their trip to Cabo over New Year’s Eve and she broke down in tears. Much like the rest of us. And while she may be bringing up tears, you have to wonder what the rest of us are bringing up. And here is the next great love song of our time:

I’ve been hit by a truck in love.

Well! Um… “a truck in love” is a very original way to phrase something. It does rely on a line Jen used in her Oprah interview: “I’ve been unbelievably lucky in love.” I really hope Jen did write this though, because then maybe there are others. I, for one, would enjoy a mournful, moody ballad with the rhyming of Mayer and Player…

Isn’t it funny how celebrity pregnancies work? In some cases you have celebrities that seem to stay pregnant until their eleventh trimester, like Ashlee Simpson. And in other cases, you have celebrities that announce their pregnancy and then seem to have their baby the following week. This is how I feel about Jenn Garner and Ben Affleck as it seems this pregnancy has just zoooomed by. Here is Ben Affleck taking his pregnant wife Jennifer Garner for a brief visit to Cedars Sinai Hospital, though why they were stopping in is unknown. They could have been checking out the maternity ward or filling out paperwork for their pending arrival, or Jennifer could have experienced some early contractions and needed a rush to the hospital. It seems by the looks of the picture that Jennifer isn’t doing all that well, so it was probably of no surprise to her or her husband that she went into labor very shortly after this photo was taken. The picture was taken on Sunday, and Jennifer and Ben welcomed the newest addition to their family just two days later on Tuesday morning, giving birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl. No other details on their new little princess have been released, such as size or the ever elusive name question, but mom and Violet’s new little sister are doing very well. Just days before the delivery, Jennifer was spotted with her oldest daughter, three year old Violet at the Farmer’s Market in Pacific Palisades and grabbing a decaf coffee at Caffe Luxxe in Santa Monica. And by all accounts, Jennifer is going to handle number two with the aplomb and grace that she did with Violet. Any co star that has worked with her, such as Alias co star and close friend Victor Garber, say that Jennifer will need no help in the mommy department. Friends close to her say that Jennifer is ‘the best mother they know’. And my hunch is it won’t be long before we see her big toothy grin as she introduces her new daughter to the rest of the world. Our congratulations go out to Ben, Jennifer, and new big sister little Violet.
