It’s too bad this girl is just so very sweet, as she always just looks so very gorgeous that you just want to hate her. Here she is proving her star status at the 2009 American Music Awards held at the Nokie Theater in a stunning glitzy roman inspired mini dress, and the country girl blowout to boot. Add the thousand watt smile to her stunning face, and you just want to hate someone that looks this good and THAT happy at the same time. And it isn’t just the fact that the AMA’s prove her talent, but that she has proven her love to a certain Canadian hockey player, so much so that he’s slipped the ring on her finger this holiday season. Yes it is true folks, Carrie Underwood and Ottawa Senator hockey player Mike Fisher are engaged, and you know when it is confirmed by her rep, they may as well be married already.

“I’m happy to confirm that Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn’t be happier. No wedding date has been set at this time.”

According to the Ottawa Sun, he also confirmed the news at a press conference Monday. He said Mike popped the question Sunday, but declined to offer any other details. His teammate Chris Neil said Fisher, 29, called him shortly after he proposed.

“I think it’s great. It’s a long time coming. There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts in Ottawa with all those girls who are in love with Mikey.”

Never mind the broken hearts in Nashville and all across America who thought they actually stood a chance with this bombshell. But they’ve had plenty of time to prepare themselves for this news, as unlike most celebrity engagements, this one has been brewing for some time. Underwood, 26, and Fisher have mostly been hush-hush about their relationship since they began dating last year. But lately, they’ve been opening up. Underwood gushed about the hockey player, 29, on the liner notes of her new CD, Play On.

“Thank you #12,” she wrote, referring to his jersey number. “You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day… xoxo, Carrie.”

And of course, her hockey star superstar fiancé can’t gush enough about her. He also praised her singing during a recent chat on The Sens Show, a Web news program for his team. “She can sing anything – I like it when she sings a good rock song,” he said. He added that she was “very committed” and worked “extremely hard. She doesn’t get too many days off – a lot less days off than I get. She’s always going.” Despite their tough schedules, “we always find a way to make it work,” he said. Now that they’re engaged, are babies next? In the January issue of Self, she opened up about wanting to start a family. By Hollywood standards as soon as a celeb starts talking about wanting children “one day” a baby announcement is never short behind, but it’s hard to say with this girl as she also inspires women to be modest “good girls” despite how she smokes the stage every single time. How she put it to Self magazine is,

“Not that I have a husband to have one with yet, but someday I’d like a family – not a big one, but not a small one either. Two kids is good; three is fine. Four? Somebody’s getting something done, because we ain’t having five!”

So she’s got the husband thing locked in, almost, if she wants to pop out four little hockey cubbies, they are going to have to get started, and soon.

Ah, the lives and loves of Carrie Underwood are fascinating no? Well, though she does like to keep her personal life under wraps, one thing she is making very clear is that she is definitely a girl that goes for the athletic type. Her most recent public relationship was a brief tete a tete with hunky football player Tony Romo, and I do believe her manicure dried before that one went anywhere, at which point she passed off her leftovers to pop rival Jessica Simpson. This time however, Carrie has taken her affections to the ice rink, and getting to know an all new sport, and an all new pro-athlete. Carrie’s new squeeze is NHL’s Ottawa Senators player Mike Fisher, and though we aren’t sure how they met or how long this has been going on, they have definitely made this a public relationship at this point. Carrie was recently spotted enjoying some time in the Great White North of Canada in Ottawa to cheer on her Senators player. And yes, the meet the parents step has already been accomplished, so this is one relationship that has the ‘getting serious’ markers all over it. Carrie has been officially seen with Mike Fisher since January, but this is the first true big step in their relationship. Carrie spent the last weekend in Canada in Ottawa, where she went out to dinner with Mike and his parents at an upscale Italian restaurant in the Kanata area of Ottawa. After the dinner, Carrie went to the luxe box with his parents and some friends in the Scotiabank Center to watch her man strut his stuff on the ice. Sadly however, Carrie wasn’t exactly Mike’s rabbit foot as the Senators lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs in an overtime game leading to a 4-3 loss. While in Ottawa, Carrie and Mike spent some time shopping at the elite Rideau Center, an upscale mall in downtown Ottawa. And Mike is not just a great athlete, looks like he is a great boyfriend as well, where he dutifully spent some time with Carrie at Sephora and BCBG. And the manager of BCBG, Paula Khoury was only too happy to report her honest opinion of the happy couple:

“They looked very in love. She’s very tiny and he’s very tall, but they looked good together and very smitten.”

Ah yes, once again, love is grand. And for this country sweetheart, we hope this one sticks, because who DOESN’T love to see Carrie Underwood smile?

Yes, it seems that in some cases opposites really DO attract. Though I have never had any harsh feelings towards either of these two starlets, I would never have put them together when it comes to music. But it seems that the forces may come together. And this has more to do with Kelly Clarkson’s country roots than Carrie Underwoods, believe it or not. Kelly Clarkson as we all know grew up in Texas and wanted to be a star. Blah blah…Now that she’s grown up on country tunes, she is living in Nashville and wants to strengthen her country ties. Can this be so for this pop princess?

“I never know what I’m gonna do in the future, but I grew up loving country music. It’s one of the things that’s been really close to me. I did a lot of country events, so I think people were thinking I was gonna [record a country album]. But the thing I love about pop music is that you can kind of incorporate any style you want …There’s always gonna be those influences in my music, but I’ll probably never just do one thing. I would be bored out of my mind.”

Besides growing up on it, Kelly is no stranger to country. She spent most of last year touring with Reba McEntire, and would do it again with America’s country princess, Carrie Underwood. Kelly thinks Carrie’s voice is ‘kick butt’ and is a huge fan. Now this would be an interesting combination, and I will be very excited to see how it turns out, should it ever, but you know what they say in Hollywood. When people say they are ‘thinking’ about something, it’s usually in the works. Remember how Ashlee Simpson said she was ‘thinking’ about getting pregnant?

I truly wonder if the ongoing fued between Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson will ever die out. And I honestly hope it doesn’t, because this is rather entertaining. On one hand we have a sleek, polished, and ESTABLISHED country music star with Carrie, and on the other, well, a blonde *whatever* that doesn’t really know what chicken of the sea is. Jessica Simpson has been slammed pretty hard for attempting to break into the CMT scene and she’s been slamming back by causing fights and stirs between her primary rival, Carrie Underwood. It doesn’t help much that the two are both linked to Tony Romo, and Carrie is definitely playing on that. Carrie ‘let it slip’ in an interview with Allure magazine a while back that Tony is still calling her, and my hunch is that with this known rivalry, the slip was no faux pas. Jessica peaked, right on cue, and told the world she had a ‘chuckle’ with Tony about the claim because hey, she CHECKED his call log y’all and that simply wasn’t true! OK! We don’t look TOO crazy now, do we Jessie? Carrie just poo poo’d Jessica’s remarks, and why not, does Carrie Underwood need to make up stories about men? Doubt it! Jessica however may also be irked that in the same Allure interview Carrie alluded to a man that had cheated on her, that he was a liar, and ‘everyone knew it but me’. She never SAID Tony mind you, but should we check back on the time line between Tony/Carrie/Jessica triangle? Hmm….Maybe Jessica should invest in a Louisville slugger *just in case*.
