Katie Holmes is seen here leaving her apartment building in New York City to head out to the theatre for her daily work on the Broadway show ‘All My Sons’. And though Katie lives a very high profile life as part of one of Hollywood’s most watched couples, she says even so many people have the wrong idea about her. In an interview with the New York Times Style Magazine, Katie discussed a common misperception that people have about her.

There’s a misperception about me that I just became this wallflower, this woman who doesn’t have any control of her life. And that’s pretty wrong. From the very beginning, I’ve made choices in my life that have been very strong.

Yes it is true that ever since she married Tom Cruise in 2006, it seems that just about anyone that wants to has come out with one statement or another about how ugly their marriage really is. We’ve heard that Tom is a control freak, that Katie has been forced to live under Scientology regime and is living a cult like life, and on and on and on. But Katie says that is not the case. She had a girlhood crush on her hubby Tom, and was surprised during their whirlwind dating life that he was actually a very down to earth person. She says she couldn’t believe how when they were dating he was so warm and thoughtful, and her first thought was ‘wow, you can be a superstar and a human being!’. Yes, it would shock us all to find out that Tom Cruise has human qualities. But she says he made her feel so amazing their entire courtship and this is why she agreed to marry him. And Tom, well, he feels the same about Kate. His side of the story?

“I knew I wanted to marry Kate when I met her. After our very first date, I was sure. At one point, I thought she was going to ask me to marry her first and I cut her off by changing the subject. I wanted to ask her.”

But does Katie miss the good ol days when life was anonymous almost and she was just the cute girl from Dawson’s Creek? Not at all. Of course, let’s keep in mind that she would never say so if she did. She says simply that her life has expanded, and her new friends and family are all a part of this bigger life she has. She maintains her happy sweet smile by tuning out what the world has to say about her, and says that she has too much to do to worry about the incessant chatter from the world. She’s a mom, an actress, and appears on stage every night and ‘can’t pay attention to all that noise’. But well, she can’t be too busy, or be tuning it out all together if she knows that the chatter on her life is there at all, can she? Uh no, didn’t think so either.

Oooooh! I’m sensing another high-end cat fight, y’all! Remember the good ol days when the Beckhams and the Cruises were BFF’s and did everything together? I am sure Posh and Katie even traded Birkins once or twice. But ever since the ugliness with UK Vogue last year, the two have had somewhat of a fashion rivalry and the BFF status seems to have lost its status quo. Here is Katie Holmes seen in a recent fashion *term used loosely* trend, as she has been out and about New York City all summer long sporting this look. Yes, Katie is desperate to bring the Wham days back it seems, with rolled up cuffs and loose ‘boyfriend style’ jeans. The truth is, these are more ‘husband’ style for Katie as she has been trying to revive this look, knowing that she IS a trendsetter, with hubby Tom Cruise’s jeans. Why rolled up? Because well, he’s height challenged when it comes to Katie Holme’s length. And so she rolled them up, got a lot of talk about the look, and decided, so what, she’s going for it. But even Project Runway has slammed her for this look, yet she STILL thinks she can bring it back. And she is going to prove that point by starting up her own denim line that mirrors this look. And she expects and hopes that it will rival Victoria Beckham’s, cuz she just thinks that they’re that much cuter. At present, Katie has about four prototypes for the line, and they all embody this relaxed fit, a term I am using which actually means frumpy and baggy. Many retailers refer to this look as the ‘boyfriend’ look. I can see it catching on only because many people will want to wear jeans that Katie designed, but this is by no means a trend that will last. Sorry Katie, pairing heels with jeans that make you look fat doesn’t slim you out. And this won’t work very well with the general public. It will create a buzz though, though I am not so sure the buzz will be enough to squeeze out the dVB line, a very well recognized and LOVED denim brand.

Katie Holmes has spent all summer long preparing for her Broadway debut of ‘All My Sons’ and is seen here at the after party for the grand debut this past Thursday. The show has been in preview format since September, but the grand opening night was October 16th, and all of the reviewers were in rare form this past Thursday. From the sounds of it, the verdict is a resounding ‘whatever’. It seems that Katie didn’t do quite poorly enough to get the thumbs down, but not nearly well enough to be referred to as ‘extraordinary’ as her hubby Tom Cruise said in reference to her performance. But of course, we know he is hardly objective, what else is he going to say, he DOES have to go home with her. Katie’s grand debut was marked yet again by serious protesting from the Scientology opponents, but that didn’t seem to hamper her style when appearing on stage. The ‘Run Katie Run’ and ‘Scientology Kills’ signs didn’t even seem to phase her. This may be because rumors are floating that Katie is trying to get out of the cult *cough* religion. We’ll see where that goes, as rumors that Jennifer is having Christmas with Brad’s mom are probably started by the same circles. Though, the bottom line from the critics was that she was ‘fine’ and ‘unremarkable’ and thus, while Katie may have already won a statue for being the most tiresome tabloid target, it is unlikely that she will be getting a Tony for this one. Here is how the critics summed her up:

After a painfully awkward first scene, she relaxes a bit,” Entertainment Weekly writes.

Ms. Holmes delivers most of her lines with meaningful asperity, italicizing every word,” according to the New York Times.

At best, she exhibits a girlish exuberance that could serve her well in certain stage roles, provided she finds a director who can ease her obvious self-consciousness and get her to focus on the often-intricate process of character development,” USA Today writes

Ouch!! That last one had to sting a little. Mind you, the phrase ‘painfully awkward’ is never a good sign in a review either, is it. Guess Katie will have to take this as a lesson learned. The quirky lopsided smile and what was it, girlish exuberance only goes so far. With the fans, it may be cute. On Broadway, not so much. Better luck next time, Katie.

Katie Holmes is seen here as she leaves her New York apartment to head out to the Gerald Schoenfeld theatre for her role in the Broadway production of ‘All My Sons’. And I am not sure what is going on with this look here, it seems that Katie is trying to revive some kind of grunge look with a little bit of glam. We have an ‘80s style here with rolled cuffs and heels that is just not sitting well with me. But it may be looks like this that are what kept her off the Best Dressed list this year. Katie however apparently has other things to think about, as she has been working hard all summer preparing for her role in ‘All My Sons’ and the hit show opened last night on Broadway with a little bit of tension for Katie. It is no secret that she is heavy in the Scientology thing what with her marriage to Tom Cruise, and many of her friends, and fans, have been trying to get her out of it. Approximately twenty of these so called fans showed up for opening night on Broadway in true activist form. They called themselves ‘Anonymous’ and picketed Broadway’s opening night wearing masks and brandishing signs such as ‘Scientology is a cult’, ‘Run Katie Run’ and ‘Free Katie, Keep Tom’. There always seems to be one protestor louder than the rest, doesn’t there, and one of them specifically said ‘We are not boycotting Katie, we are not boycotting the play, we are protesting against Scientology’. Oh ok. Protestors were making statements such as ‘Scientology kills people’ ‘it’s perverted’, ‘it follows you home at night’ and so on and so forth. Tom Cruise of course was on hand to brave the mobs and support his wife in her opening night performance. He attended the event with Rainman co-star Dustin Hoffman and afterwards beamed and glowed for his wife’s efforts calling the show and her performance ‘Extraordinary. By the time the show was done however, the protestors crowd had grown to over 150, and the group ‘Anonymous’ described themselves as a ‘leaderless worldwide group of concerned citizens’. They have also staged protests at the Scientology Center in New York City and have been picketing outside the New Village Academy, a private school in Calabasas, California that is funded by Will Smith and his wife Jada. Gotta love it when protestors are so vehement about their position they don’t even have the stones to name themselves and hide behind anonymity. I am sure Tom and Katie had a good laugh about all of it.

Katie Holmes has been burning the candle at both ends these days, with jet setting between L.A. and New York. In L.A. she’s been attending the premiere of ‘Tropic Thunder’ and then zooming back to New York the following day to continue rehearsals for her Broadway work in ‘All My Sons’. She is seen here enjoying some swing time with her daughter Suri, and while by all appearances she is hanging on tight to the little one, it may be her marriage that she is truly trying to cling to. By all accounts the Cruise marriage is hanging by a thread due to many factors, one of which being Katie acting as an East Coaster for the time being. Katie and Tom were last seen at the premier of Tropic Thunder, and though they were all smiles, there may be bigger issues underneath. Cruise plays a small role in Thunder, and it may just be this fact that is causing a rift as we all know in Tinseltown, size matters when it comes to roles. Katie may be feeling the crunch of being the primary breadwinner in a family that expects nothing less than the best, and as her career skyrockets, Tom’s seems to be moving in the opposite direction. Add that to the fact that due to her career, Katie missed an important scientology convention in Los Angeles, and all reports indicate that control freak Cruise was less than impressed. Tom’s dwindling career combined with his scientology obsession may slowly be moving him off the A-list in Hollywood and having a significant effect on his former ‘heartthrob’ status that Katie initially was attracted to. Is Katie Holmes about to be a single mom? I know many that wouldn’t be too disappointed by that fact, and by all accounts, she seems to handle life with much more grace alone, now that she IS a big time star. Time will tell now, won’t it?

Katie Holmes has been turning heads and making many a fashion statement since the day she became Mrs. Cruise. Gone are the mousy dowdy days of the Dawson’s Creek girl, and today we see a woman who is sophisticated and elegant and topping best dressed lists just about every week. She’s even rivaled Victoria Beckham when it comes to being a fashionista, and perhaps now that she has the Cruise budget, she can be more inclined to show off $800 Louboutins and Birkin bags that cost more than some people’s vehicles. Nonetheless, it seems that Katie doesn’t just like to wear fine garments, she also has a hankering for designing them. She is seen here at the premiere to Tom Cruise’s latest work ‘Tropical Thunder’ and is towering over her famously short hubby in sparkling heels and a gorgeous navy dress. As it turns out, finding out ‘who’ Katie is wearing will not be difficult, as Katie Holmes is wearing a Katie Holmes original. Yes, this strappy, navy, pleated and form hugging ensemble is one that Katie created herself with the help of her stylist Jeanne Yang. The dress features a leather pleated bodice and a figure fitting skirt and is easily one of Katie’s ‘new’ favorites. But don’t be expecting a fashion line coming from this girl any time soon, she is doing it just for fun, and to see if ‘she can’ and well….I’d say she’s doing very well thus far. As usual, stunning and elegant, the new Katie Holmes.
